The College of Foreign Language of Xinjiang Agricultural University was set up in April, 2003. Ever since the founding of the Xinjiang Bayi Agricultural College (now called Xinjiang Agricultural University), the teaching of foreign languages has been in the process of ongoing development, and the College of Foreign Language has derived itself from its initial counterparts the Russian Language Teaching and Research office, the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Office, the Section of Foreign Language Teaching and the Foreign Language Department, blazing a new trail through thick and thin.
Aiming at the fostering of different classes of qualified personnel and the training of men for foreign language-related professions for the economic construction of the country and the Autonomous Region, the College of Foreign Language has been making unremitting efforts to probe into the reform and perfection of foreign language teaching for public purposes and its teaching system over the last 50 years. The recruitment of the English major four-year students in our school began in 2002, which initiated us into an academic research and exploration of the four-year education law based on the idea of betterment of the four-year teaching blueprint and the integration of the characteristics of the agricultural university. The school is now forging ahead with its training program of compound type of foreign language qualified personnel.
The college has a teaching and administrative staff of 52 members. Among them 45 are teachers, and 7 are administrators. In addition, two foreign teachers are on the teaching staff as well. The college consists of two departments: the English Department and the Department of College English which undertakes the teaching of English for non-English major four-year students and postgraduates.
The College of Foreign Language, thanks to the joined efforts of our teachers and students, has made good progress in the fields of discipline structuring, teaching and research, English teaching for public purposes, and management of students’ affairs. For a better prospect of the school, we are to carry on the tradition of Xinjiang Agricultural University, work harder with a truth-seeking and pioneering spirit, and make more contributions to the economic construction of the country and the Autonomous Region.
